Beginning

He remembered the first time he saw her. She had just taken her first breathe but the light inside her was blinding. So bright. So incredibly beautifully complex he could taste it.

He knew there wasn't a version of her that he wouldn't crave. Whatever twisted paths her life took, whoever she became, it wouldn't matter.

He would never tire of watching her

And he knew it was done. As long as her light burnt, he was bound to her. And he didn't mind. The hunger in him would be satisfied with no other. He would watch her from the shadows all her life.  Watch over and chances are, she would never know.

Time may have carried on but ge didn't notice. A million bright moments absorbed him. Her first smile. Her first step. Her first word. The first time she saw a dog. Even her first tears. And every time after, another shining instant.

He forgot who he had been before, because it held no interest. He nearly forgot that there had even been a before.
